Two new resources for traditional Irish music

Two new digital resources for traditional Irish music have recently become available:

The Séamus Connolly Collection of Irish Music

The Boston College Libraries are delighted to present The Séamus Connolly Collection of Irish Music(link is external). This digital collection features traditional tunes and songs collected by master fiddle player Séamus Connolly, Sullivan Artist in Residence in Irish Music at Boston College (2004 to 2015) and National Heritage Fellow(link is external) (2013). Freely available, the collection offers over 330 audio recordings featuring more than 130 musicians via SoundCloud(link is external), with accompanying stories, transcriptions, and introductory essays.

James Goodman manuscripts

The Library of Trinity College Dublin(link is external) and the Irish Traditional Music Archive(link is external) have recently launched a website(link is external) that features music dating from before the Irish Famine. The manuscript collection features six volumes of Irish folk tunes and texts that were compiled by James Goodman (1828−1896), Professor of Irish at Trinity. Long considered a valuable resource for performances and recordings, the over 2,000 melodies contained in the manuscripts are now freely available online(link is external).
