IAML has local representation in 26 of its members' countries. Where there is a IAML national branch it usually serves as the national music library organization in that country.

IAML has members in over forty countries. In some of these countries members sometimes come together in groups that are not formally constituted IAML National Branches.
In countries that lack a strong music library/archive tradition, the establishment of a national branch of IAML can often be a first step in increased activity and improved standards at the national level. The procedure for forming a national branch can be found here.
