The Brazilian branch was initially founded in October 2009 under the auspices of the Academia Brasileira de Música, and re-founded on October 2013 during the 1st Brazilian Congress on Research and Information Systems in Music, held at the Universidade de Brasília, as the first national event organized by IAML-Brazil’s branch.
The event hosted the discussion and approval of the branch’s Statutes with the collaboration of both present and former IAML presidents, Barbara Dobbs Mackenzie and Massimo Gentili-Tedeschi, who were also able to aid in answering questions from participants.
There was also the presentation to and from Brazilian R-groups as well as workshops in music cataloguing.
The event also presented its first Mercedes Pequeno Prize for the best paper presented, which was awarded to Juliana Rocha, Doctoral student in Information Science at the Universidade de Brasília.
The results of the event will be published in book format and will be available in early 2015.
The IAML-Brazil branch aims to establish and organize research activities on information systems in music, professional training and procedures for the management and treatment of musical information in Brazil, with the support of experts in neighboring areas in this field of knowledge.
The IAML-Brazil branch will also co-host with IAML-Italy the 1st Latin-American IAML event in La Havana, Cuba, next March 2015.
