The Norwegian IAML Branch (Norsk musikkbibliotekforening) was established in November 1972. It has around 65 members, equally split between personal members and institutions.
Norsk musikkbibliotekforening arranges meetings with diverse topics of interest both for music research libraries and archives, and public libraries. The association also arranges further training for its members, especially then it comes to music cataloguing and copyright issues. Study visits to different music libraries and archives are also organized on a regular basis.
The Norwegian association hosts a national biannual conference regarding matters in Sound Archives and National Music Sound librarianship. The next conference will be arranged in northern Norway, in Tromsø, 16–17 September 2024 with the topic “Sounds of the Nord”. The conference has its own website at www.lydarkiv.no.
There has been a fruitful collaboration between the Nordic and Baltic countries over the years. Last time we met was in Helsinki in spring 2023, arranged by the Finnish Music Library Association.
Several of the members of the Norwegian IAML Branch have served as officers in various IAML Sections. Amongst them are Inger Johanne Christiansen, Berit Holth, Siren Steen and Tone Nøtvik Jakobsen.
Norsk musikkbibliotekforening has hosted the international IAML conference two times: Bergen in 1976 and Oslo in 2004.
