The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

As many of our European IAML members will know, the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), approved by the EU Parliament, will take effect in Europe on 25 May 2018. With reference to this I would like to send you the following information:

IAML collects information about its members from the national branches or directly from members who do not belong to a national branch. It is the responsibility of the national branches, or individuals who do not belong to a national branch, to make sure that the information is updated and correct. The Association does not collect data about our members other than that which is visible in the membership database. Only members have access to this database and we do not disseminate data about our members to anyone outside of our Association. We only collect and retain data that we need for administrative purposes, to conduct elections and to give access to e-Fontes. Members who have not paid their membership fees for two consecutive years will have their data erased from the database. If a member would like to have his or her data removed at an earlier stage this will be taken care of without delay by the Treasurer [treasurer@iaml.info].

We have asked a lawyer to examine this policy and she has certified that it complies with the new regulation.

Please, feel free to contact me [secretary@iaml.info] if you have any questions and or concerns.

Pia Shekhter, IAML Secretary General
