IAML is looking for an Editor of Fontes Artis Musicae
Fontes Artis Musicae is the quarterly journal of IAML (iaml.info). The journal is likely to transition from print to electronic, though a timetable is not yet established for this. IAML is now searching for a new Editor.
Position Description: The Editor oversees the publication of Fontes.
Duties: Appoints assistant and contributing editors and coordinates contributions from them, including preparation of manuscript, proofreading, collation of proofs, etc. Solicits and edits articles for publication; coordinates peer review of submissions as appropriate. Prepares an Editorial column and other editorial matter. Works with the printer and distributor to maintain publication schedule and production quality. Reports at least twice a year to the Chair of the Publications Committee on the state of the journal. Serves on the IAML Publications Committee.
We are looking for a candidate who is innovative, creative and a team player,
Qualifications: Administrative experience, including the successful planning and observance of long-term schedules. Writing and editorial skills, including a thorough knowledge of English (both written and spoken). In addition, the candidate should have basic proficiency in the two other IAML languages (French and German). Broad knowledge of the literature of music and music librarianship. Familiarity with IAML and its membership. Understanding of IAML's goals and Fontes' role in realizing them. Ability to provide attention to detail, to inspire contributors, and to work well under pressure and with a variety of people. Familiarity with word-processing programs and electronic document transfer over the Internet. It is desirable to have experience with e-publications. Budgeting experience also desirable.
The Editor will receive an honorarium of €2.000 per annum. The position has – in the first instance – a limited tenure of four years; it is possible that the arrangement will be continued for another two terms of two years each thereafter. There will be a 12 month probation period.
There is no application form. Interested candidates are asked to submit their application (CV, covering letter, and examples of their work or references) to the Secretary General by June 30, 2014. Short-listed candidates will be interviewed during the IAML Annual Congress in Antwerp in July 2014 in person or via Skype, or at another agreed date via Skype.
The successful applicant should be able to start work in this position on January 1, 2015.
