At the IAML General Assembly in Cambridge on 1 August 2023, members voted unanimously to award honorary membership to Roger Flury in recognition of his outstanding service to the Association over four decades. Born in London, Roger at first took vocal studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama before moving to New Zealand and training as a librarian. There he went on to make a distinguished career in librarianship, notably as Team Leader of Music Services at the National Library of New Zealand in Wellington and Music Curator of the Alexander Turnbull Library. He served in various roles in the IAML New Zealand branch, notably two terms as President, before being taking up the position of IAML Secretary General in 2002 and IAML President in 2010. Among many other offices, he also served as the very first IAML Historian, from 2014 to 2019. At the General Assembly, Rupert Ridgewell read a slightly abridged version of Roger’s citation: the full version is now available here. Many congratulations to Roger on becoming the 25th honorary member in IAML’s history!
