2018 has been declared the European Year of Cultural Heritage. While libraries are active in preserving our heritage every day of every year, this is a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the unique contribution our institutions are making. It is a chance to ensure that everyone, from political leaders to the general public, understands how libraries are protecting, preserving and celebrating heritage, from the oldest manuscripts to Twitter.
IFLA has therefore produced this short briefing to help libraries across the European Union to understand how to get involved and who to contact. And with Sustainable Development Goal 11 of the UN's 2030 Agenda - which includes the objective of safeguarding cultural heritgage - in focus this year, there are many rich opportunities for libraries around the world to celebrate this crucial pillar of the work of libraries.
