Underscoring : supporting music communities
Call for Papers
Our forthcoming annual conference is an opportunity for professionals and stakeholders across public, private, education and government sectors to share best practice and new ideas.
With the world becoming increasingly self-sufficient in sourcing its information needs, there is often a perception of libraries and archives becoming less relevant. This year we will look at the theme of support and what this means to Music Communities in a contemporary world. As much as Music Communities depend on us to support their research and endeavours, we also rely on them to assist us in identifying treasures from our own collections and shaping the services we provide.
We welcome papers exploring emerging trends in the kind of support Music Communities expect from libraries, as well as examples of how they support us in enhancing our collections and services through volunteer projects and community activity.
We plan to hold sessions relating to topics including supporting practice/creative-based research; RDA music cataloguing; public & community music collections; and successes in volunteer projects. Presentations should last approximately 20 minutes (plus discussion time) and we also welcome proposals for relevant demonstrations & training.
Please send your papers or proposals to info@iamlaustralia.org.au by Wednesday 30th April 2014. All proposals should contain;
• Your name, organisation & position
• An approx. 100 word abstract of your paper, demonstration or training offer including key topics and a descriptive title
• Technical requirements. Most venues will be Apple based with Powerpoint, internet access and data show capable.
• A brief biography of no more than 100 words
IAML Australia is the Australian Branch of the International Association of Music Libraries Archives and Documentation Centres and our membership represents a wide range of organisations including academic institutions, public libraries, private music libraries, archives, research centres, orchestras, publishers and stakeholders. Our individual members represent a cross section of professionals and stakeholders including academic, public, and orchestral librarians, archivists, researchers, and students. Our conferences welcome specialist music librarians as well as individuals who are responsible for music collections and services as part of a wider portfolio, clients of these services, suppliers and other stakeholders.
