The IAML Board stands in solidarity with all IAML members and other library associations who have expressed their concern for the protection of universal human rights. We particularly wish to convey our support for the MLA’s recent “Statement Opposing Racism and Police Brutality” and the statement by the IFLA President and Secretary General, “Racism Has No Place in the Society Libraries are Working to Build”.
IAML is committed to the idea that libraries have the potential to empower people regardless of their background. “As an association, IAML is strongly committed to diversity, equality, and the free expression of ideas, based on a firm belief in the value of civil discourse and the free exploration of competing ideas and concepts – with a fundamental respect for the rights, dignity, and value of all persons.” (IAML’s Code of conduct).
The importance of music in the lives of people worldwide is something we cherish and work to support internationally. Music brings people together, and IAML members help by making music accessible and promoting and protecting tangible and intangible musical heritage among diverse cultures throughout the world.
