Mass for 4 voices Byrd
One Star at Last, a setting of a George Mackay poem
by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies
It is with great pleasure that Grove sponsors this event, at the IAML annual conference in Edinburgh this year. Directed by Alan Tavener, Cappella Nova has, since the first edition of Grove, worked tenaciously to expose much of the work of the Scottish composer, Robert Carvor (or Carver, as his name is sometimes spelt). They have also recorded and performed his music more then any other choir.
Much research into the life and works of Carvor has been carried out in recent years, which has of course, helped the pioneering work of Cappella Nova. Another consequence of this work has been the doubling in length of the entry on Robert Carvor in The New Grove II. In recognition of this, we will be featuring an exclusive preview of The New Grove II Carvor article, in the concert programme.
