Description

For the third of IAML’s online meetings, we turn our attention to the views and needs of music library users. With physical access to libraries in many parts of the world restricted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the availability of online services has never been more important. To what extent are users familiar with using online systems, and how can libraries improve awareness of the services they offer? How do users view the implications of technological developments such as the adoption of digital sheet music, and the future of printed materials? 

These and many other questions are the subject of a survey of music library staff and users conducted over the past year by Dr Michael Bonshor on behalf of the Music Libraries Trust. In this session, Michael will present the results of the survey and invite feedback and discussion from an international perspective. We are also delighted to welcome Alfons Karabuda, President of the International Music Council [IMC], to discuss the value of music libraries in relation to the IMC’s “5 Music Rights”, which among other things defend the right of all children and adults to ‘have access to musical involvement through participation, listening, creation, and information’..
