IAML Australia changed structure to a network of interested librarians as of 2022.

The Australian branch of IAML has been promoting the importance of music libraries, archives and document centres and supporting professionals in these fields since 1984.

It was incorporated as an Association in 2006 to support the delivery of the IAML International conference in Sydney in 2007. In 2022 it moved away from its status as a formal Association to reduce administrative pressures and continues as the IAML Australia Network.

Australian members have had a long and vibrant history supporting researchers and users of music in all its forms since at least the mid-1950s, shortly after IAML was formed.

Between 1971 and 2008 IAML Australia produced several publications including:

  • Continuo - Journal of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Document Centres
  • Intermezzo - Newsletter of IAML Australia
  • Union catalogue of orchestral scores and performing parts in Australian music libraries and collections. Edited by Mary O'Mara
  • Other catalogues of music serials held in Australia libraries

From 2008 onwards IAML Australia has communicated with its members and shared member stories through their website, eNewsletters and social media channels, as well as via regular conferences.

Historical details of the former association have been archived with the National Library of Australia. Discover more on their website.
