Banquet: Buses for the Banquet will leave from the conference centre lower level on the Mansfield Street side at 6:30 PM (18h30). Dress for the banquet is casual and comfortable-- we are going to a sugar shack in a maple tree forest. Dinner options include vegetarian food along with traditional dishes. There is a gift shop to purchase maple syrup and other treats.

Professional exchange of music librarians: On Friday, July 27, the Commission on Service and Training is going to present a report in English about the experiences made during an exciting internship and exchange: "Dresden – Cambridge – London 2012". You are cordially invited to this presentation which includes a survey for the audience: Would be an exchange programme for music librarians useful? If you do not have time attending this session, nevertheless, you are welcome to take part in the two-question online survey provided in three languages, please click here. Going to the airport when returning home: For international flights you might need to arrive 3 hours in advance and for the United States 2 hours in advance. For those traveling to or through the United States you will go through United States Customs in the Montreal airport before boarding your flight. Safe travels home. Bon voyage!

This evening's concert will take place at the Redpath Hall at McGill University, which is the place where we held the opening night reception. The concert with the Bozzini Quartet will begin at 6:30 PM (18h30) and last one hour and include music by Canadian composers Claude Vivier, Micheal Oesterle and Cassandra Miller. For those who wish to be guided to the concert location, a volunteer will meet you at 6pm in the level 1 foyer of the conference centre, just inside the Sherbrooke St entrance.

Gala Records/Berliner asked us to announce that they can now take credit and debit cards at their table in the exhibits.

Today is the final day for the exhibits. Please be sure to visit them today from 9:00 to 16:30. Thanks to all of them for their support of IAML 2012.

The Canadian Association of Music Libraries Archives and Documentation Centres (CAML) AGM is from 12:30 to 14:00 at McGill University in the Cyberthèque located in the lower level of the Redpath Library Building, which is part of the Humanities and Social Sciences Library. You can enter the building from the doors near the entrance to Redpath Hall, where the opening reception was. All members are encouraged to attend this annual meeting of the Association. Thanks goes to the McGill Library who is providing lunch for us at this event.

CHANGE FROM EARLIER: The gathering place for bus tours this afternoon will be in the lower level of the conference centre, just inside the Mansfield Street entrance. The Walking of Old Montréal is at the IAML Registration Desk on the 3rd floor. For all tours arrive by 1:45 PM (13h45) to start departing for tours by 2:00 PM (14h00).

In your program bag there is a flyer about the new book, “Unheard of: memoirs of a Canadian Composer” by John Beckwith, whose music was featured at the afternoon concert. It is published by Wilfrid Laurier University Press.

We hope all of you are enjoying the conference so far!

Some of you may have discovered that our conference centre includes a food court on the lower level, which is also where our building connects with the Métro system. When the weather is bad you can use this underground system to walk to the Métro and the underground shopping centres that are along St. Catherine.

If you wish to see more of the Grande Bibliothèque, where the reception was last night, they are offering a full tour of the facility which lasts about one hour. There is a sign-up sheet posted on the conference board next to the registration desk (limit of 45 participants). If you are interested you can join a group that will leave the conference centre at 15:30 from the Level 1 foyer of the conference centre, just inside the Sherbrooke Street entrance.

Directions to this evening's concert are on the conference web site. For those who wish to travel as a group, volunteers will meet you in the Level 1 foyer of the conference centre, just inside the Sherbrooke Street entrance, at 6:00. Allow about 30 minutes to get to Old Montréal using public transportation. Tonight’s concert is at 7:00 PM. The choir performing tonight is an excellent group and the concert will last 1 hour. They will be selling CDs before and after the concert. There are many interesting restaurants in Old Montréal to eat at after the concert.

Tomorrow at lunch time the Canadian Music Centre is offering a tour and lunch. You need to sign up in advance at their table in the exhibits area by 1:00 today. See them for more details.

There is a new recording released to honor Helmut Kallmann called “Sounds of North.” The Emile Berliner Museum, which is a museum dedicated to the history of sound recording, is open Wednesdays to Sundays from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. See the Gala Records table for more information about both of these offerings.

Welcome to Montreal! Bienvenue à Montréal !

We are very happy to be hosting over 300 of you this week.

Please use Facebook and Twitter during the week. Both are connected to our news page on the conference website, where we will post announcements and information throughout the week.

For all events, including the evening events, please remember to wear your name badge, because this acts as your ticket, except for the Wednesday afternoon tours and the Friday night banquet, where you need to have tickets. For the evening events if anyone wishes to purchase extra tickets for friends, family or collegues, they are available. Ask at the registration desk for more details.

If you want to make dinner plans after the concerts in the evenings, know that both concerts are scheduled for one hour each. The restaurant list is on our conference website with links to the restaurant websites, if you wish to get details to make any dinner reservations in advance.

Immediately after this plenary the exhibits will open. We wish to thank the wonderful support of our sponsors and exhibitors. Since we printed the program Harrassowitz became a Silver Sponsor, so I wish to thank them and all of our Silver and Gold Sponsors. We have added a couple news exhibitor, too, since the program was printed. They are IPCI-Canada and the Packard Humanities Institute: C.P.E. Bach Complete Works. This morning we want to thank Library Ideas for their support of the coffee/tea break happening during the opening of the exhibits.
During this first coffee/tea break there will be "coffee corner for public librarians", so there will be a table identified in the foyer for this event.

Dr. Richard Virr and the staff of McGill’s Rare Books and Special Collections department (Humanities and Social Sciences Library, 3459 McTavish, directly opposite the Centre Mont-Royal) have prepared an exhibition of music-related documents in its collection. Highlights include selections from 19th-century Canadian sheet music; Montreal concert programmes (1786-1945); scores from the music library of Pauline Donalda (1882-1970), a Montreal soprano who sang with great success in London, Paris, New York, and Brussels; and documents from McGill’s Charles Burney collection. The exhibition is displayed in the main floor lobby of the McLennan Library building of the Humanities and Social Sciences Library. Click here for more details about visiting the McGill Library.
